A new signature design guideline for Ewha Womans University, Korea’s first women’s university, founded in 1886
- brand identity

A new signature design system applied across both online and offline media
Founded in 1886, Ewha Womans University was the first women’s university in Korea. For more than 130 years, it has produced countless female leaders throughout society. As a university encompassing a wide range of academic disciplines and institutes, Ewha Womans University had guidelines for the use of its signature design with respect to its expanding colleges and institutes. However, the existing guidelines emphasized the size of the university name and marked the names of the colleges and institutes smaller. Thus, it was necessary to improve the readability of the signature on small displays. In addition, the lack of guidelines, except for colleges, meant that certain departments and institutes were often using the signature design arbitrarily. In response, Double D additionally developed new signature design guidelines fit for the digital environment and suggested myriad improvements. Furthermore, we developed a KOR-ENG combination signature design, which did not exist before, to ensure the consistency of the Ewha Womans University brand in various media and other pertinent situations.

Korean signature design with improved readability
The new Korean signature design shrinks the relatively large school name and enlarges secondary information to improve the readability of this less crucial information on small digital displays that transmit online media, including web and mobile displays. In particular, it allows for the clear insertion of each college name and major not specified by previous guidelines.

English signature design for use across various media
The new English signature design moves away from the all-caps case convention and applies the title case to subheadings to reduce text space and improve readability. We have rewritten the line break convention for longer subheadings that were difficult to utilize previously in some media environments, such as mobile displays.

Korean-English combined signature design for offline media usage
The newly developed KOR-ENG combination signature is utilized by some offline media produced and distributed to multilingual audiences.
